What is Family TreeXcel?

Family TreeXcel is a complete genealogy system built entirely in Microsoft Excel. More than just templates - these are fully automated, macro-enabled workbooks designed to help you research, organize, display, analyze, and pass down your family history.

The system works as a standalone solution or alongside any other genealogy software. Import and export GEDCOM files, build charts, transcribe sources, create profiles, analyze your data, print-ready outputs, and so much more - all in one place, all in Excel.

If you don't want all the bells and whistles - then smaller files exist to help accomplish more specific goals.

Who is Family TreeXcel?

My name is Mike and I am based out of Philadelphia, PA. I have been researching my own Family Tree off and on since 2010.

I tried and purchased a lot of genealogy websites and software.  Each time I was left wanting more - better charts, better file organization, better cross referencing of sources, better analysis tools, better ways to both share and pass down my research.

I felt like I was constantly re-entering the same data with no real end game in sight.

So I started building my own charts, reports, and summaries in the program I knew best - Microsoft Excel. That led to learning VBA coding and macros to automate everything I was making.

I assumed it was not just me who had these software frustrations combined with a love of spreadsheets for my data. What started as a personal project turned into something much bigger after years of learning, fine tuning, and troubleshooting - Family TreeXcel.
