GEDCOM TO SPREADSHEET CONVERTER
This 100% FREE and SECURE tool converts any standard GEDCOM file (.ged) into a structured spreadsheet (.xlsx) instantly in your browser - no software to install and no account required. It can be opened in any spreadsheet program.
The spreadsheet will contain the basic PEOPLE and FAMILY data. It will have no macros or connections to any Family TreeXcel products.

HOW TO USE:
1. Drag and Drop your .ged file onto the converter (or click on it to browse and select)
2. Your spreadsheet (.xlsx) will begin generating automatically *
3. While waiting (15s) - check out the TREE system features and consider upgrading
4. When ready, Click the "DOWNLOAD SPREADSHEET" button to save the file
5. Open that .xlsx file in any spreadsheet program (e.g. Excel, Google Sheets)
6. Enable text wrapping in the following columns so multi-value entries align properly:
a. PEOPLE worksheet = FAMS and FAMC columns
b. FAMILIES worksheet = CID and CHILDREN columns
7. Format and use the data however you like - you are now in full control
8. Refresh or close the browser tab when finished - your data is immediately cleared

IS IT SECURE:
The entire process is handled 100% locally in your browser. At no point is your GEDCOM data uploaded, transmitted, or sent over the internet. It is never seen, read, stored, or accessed by Family TreeXcel, Shopify, or any server.
Once you close, refresh, or change your browser - then your data is immediately cleared.
When you drop your .ged file into the converter then your browser does the following:
1. Reads the file locally on your device
2. Processes the data entirely on your device
3. Builds the spreadsheet in your device's temporary memory
4. Hands the processed data back to you as a download.
Shopify, who this website was built under, hosts the converter tool page but also will never see your data. The only thing Shopify logs is that someone visited the page, as any website would do.
You can verify all of this yourself by opening your browser's developer tools (F12) while using the converter and watching the Network tab — you will see no GEDCOM or spreadsheet data is ever sent in network requests.
COLUMNS - LEGEND & CALCULATIONS:
DATES:
DOB / DOD / MDATE = Display dates for birth, death, and marriage - verbatim from the GEDCOM.
Birth (B), Death (D), and Marriage (M) dates are then attempted to be broken out into 5 columns for better analysis:
P = Prefix (Abt. , Bef., Aft. only)
M = Numerical Month
D = Numerical Day
Y = Year
BC = Is a B.C. date (Y = Yes or "" = No)
If a date is not recognized then the part columns will be "".
BETWEEN dates are not recognized.
AGES:
AGE = Display Age based on AGEY, AGEM, AGED values
AGEY = Number of Years a person is.
AGEM = Number of Months since the last year passed
AGED = Number of Days since the last month passed
Ages are calculated as of a Person's death, if not living OR as of the date the file was created if they are alive.
Ages won't calculate if a BY is missing.
Ages won't calculate if a DY is missing for deceased individuals
If M or D is "" - then calculations assume the 1st for each.
If a Bef. Prefix - Then assumes 12/31 of the PREVIOUS year.
If an Aft. Prefix - Then assumes 1/1 of the FOLLOWING year.
COUNTS:
SPCNT = Number of spouses a person has
CHCNT = Number of unique children a person has
IDS:
All ID's come directly from the GEDCOM.
ID = Peron's Unique ID
FAMS = Unique Family ID that a person is a SPOUSE in (Text Wrap this column)
FAMC = Unique Family ID that a person is a CHILD in (Text Wrap this column)
FAMID = Family's Unique ID
HID = Husband's Unique ID
WID = Wife's Unique ID
CID = Children's Unique IDs (Text Wrap this column and Children column)
