HELP - GEDCOM - OVERVIEW

The goal of the GEDCOM workbook is to take the data from a GEDCOM file and import it into Excel. There you can analyze, filter, and sort your Family Tree Data.

The stand-alone version is a single workbook and will NOT interact with any other Family TreeXcel files.

To interact GEDCOM data with charts, sources, and more - get the TREE file.

RULES:

1. Do NOT rename or delete any of the default worksheets included with the file
2. You CAN add your own worksheets to the file
3. Keep header rows in row (3) for Export and Filter macros to work properly
4. Once imported you can manipulate any of the cells as you wish - just keep headers in row 3.

LAYOUT:

The GEDCOM workbook is a macro-enabled Excel file. It consists of (3) worksheets.

1. INDEX = The only visible worksheet where all the action and data takes place. This is the only worksheet you will need to see and use.
2. FAMILY = Hidden worksheet used as backup for the VBA code when importing family connections.
3. HEADERS = Hidden worksheet with the default column headers that get copied over to the INDEX worksheet anytime a GEDCOM is imported.

OPTIONS:

At the top of the INDEX worksheet are the (5) options - just click them to run the associated macros.

1. GEDCOM = Select a GEDCOM file to import - it will erase any existing data
2. EXPORT = Exports all visible data to a new Excel workbook
3. FIT = Resizes all rows and columns to fit the data in the cells
4. FILTERS = Clears all filters applied to the data
