HELP - TREE - HOW IT WORKS

EXCEL WORKBOOKS:

The Family TreeXcel "Tree" program is a collection of macro-enabled Excel workbooks that allow you to build, organize, and display your family tree information.

The (4) workbooks are:

1. TREE WORKBOOK = This is the main workbook that allows you to build your tree, add sources, and create charts.  From this workbook you can access all the other workbooks.  All the other workbooks will link to the Tree workbook's data.

2. RESEARCH WORKBOOK = This workbook allows you to summarize all the source details entered for a person in the Tree workbook.  This provides a clearer summary of a person's research to draw more accurate conclusions. Each person will have their own workbook.

3. PROFILE WORKBOOK = This workbook allows you to create custom profile pages detailing all aspects of a person's life.  These profile pages provide an appealing display of all the facts for a person to really bring their story to life. Each person will have their own workbook.

4. ADD-ON WORKBOOKS = Future charts and reports will be developed in separate Excel workbooks. They are not included with the original program but will link to the Tree workbook's data. When they become available you can download them separately and add them to the directory.

*If you have a specific chart or report request you can email me what your looking for and I can try to automate it.

ID #s:

The Tree automatically creates a unique ID number for every person.

They start at 1 and increase for each person added to the tree. Once assigned it can not be changed.

A person's ID # will always be in red on charts, reports, and indexes. It is also used in the naming of files for easy reference.

Some charts also show a person's father's ID (FID) in blue and their mother's ID (MID) in purple.

1. Red ID = Person's unique ID # (A).

2. Blue ID = Person's father's unique ID # (FID) (B).

3. Purple ID = Person's mother's unique ID # (MID) (C).

CONTROLS:

1. The general principle is to DOUBLE CLICK on a cell to activate that respective option. Worksheets with formulas are protected so it is difficult to mess anything up.

2. When forms are opened up you can use the TAB and ENTER keys to navigate from field to field. You only have to single click on form buttons.

3. Some options have keyboard shortcuts and they should be listed on their respective worksheet or forms.

PRIMARY PERSON:

The "Primary Person" is the current focus of the Tree display in the Tree workbook. All relationships displayed, charts created, and external workbooks will be respective to this Primary Person.

The Primary Person is the person highlighted in yellow.

To change the Primary Person on the TREE worksheet you can double click on the following to make that respective person the new Primary Person:
