TREE - HELP - PERSON DETAILS (SOURCE)

When you add a new person to link to a source you will open up to (1) of (2) input forms to enter that person's details for the source:

1. OTHER = Has every available input field for each category (i.e. Birth, Death, Education, etc...).

2. CENSUS = Input fields available are designed to mimic the selected census year and country to make input faster and more efficient.

What input form you open up to is determined by what type of source you selected on the "TYPE" page on the SOURCE DETAILS form.

*When you edit a person's details you will only open to the OTHER input form.

Every input field is optional and any input is allowed except for certain date fields which require numerical month values for date calculations.

It is recommended to only fill in the details that the source specifically has for the selected person AND to enter it exactly as the source shows it.

Use the TAB and ENTER keys to quickly navigate the fields.

* "ALT + Underline Character" is the keyboard shortcut for most options.

OTHER:

This input form has (8) tabs/pages to input information (A). Each tab is split into (2) categories.

Most fields should be self explanatory.  Fill out any applicable fields that the source provides.

Any input is allowed in the fields besides date fields which require a numerical month input.

I recommend inputting the data exactly how the source says it and not to infer any details. The exception being certain abbreviations for common traits like Sex, Race, and marital status.

(B) CATEGORY = Enter the general category the source is for.  For example a death certificate would be "DEATH". If it's primary a family member's source then "FAMILY REC". This field is pre-populated with categories I found common but any input is allowed here.

(C) <<< = Click this button to navigate to the previous tab/page.

(D) VIEW = This will open any media that was linked to this source for reference. It will open in your default program for that file type.

(E) CHANGE = This will take you back to the PEOPLE page on the SOURCE DETAILS form. Click this if you mistakenly chose a person to link to the source. Any unsaved details entered will be lost.

(F) SAVE = Click this when you filled out the applicable fields to add the details to the database.

*When you create a Research workbook for a person all of these source details will populate the respective summary pages to help you draw more accurate conclusions.

(G) MINWill minimize the Tree workbook but keep this form open to allow easier reference to outside data on the computer. Once minimized this button will then say "MAX". Re-click it to make the Tree workbook full screen again.

(H) >>>Click this button to navigate to the next tab/page.

(I) EVENT FIELDS = Use this to enter details about any event not referenced on any other tab/page. For example a baptism.

(J) ALL OTHER = Use this field as a catch-all for any details from a source that don't make sense anywhere else.

The last tab allows you to enter other family members or associates listed on the source.

*Spouses and parents have their own tabs/pages so don't enter them here.

(K) CHILDREN DETAILS = Enter a child's details in these fields. Once entered use the "+" button (L) to add those details to the list (M).

*Repeat this for each child listed on the source.

(L) + = Click this to add the child's details to the list (M). Use the "-" button to remove a child from the list.

(M) CHILD LIST = All children added will be displayed in this list.

(N) RELATIVE DETAILS = Enter other relative/associate details in these fields. Once entered use the "+" button (O) to add those details to the list (P).

*Repeat this for each relative/associate listed on the source.

(O) + = Click this to add the relative/associate's details to the list (P). Use the "-" button to remove them from the list.

(P) RELATIVE LIST = All relatives/associates added will be displayed in this list.

CENSUS:

The input fields in this form will do their best to mirror the chosen census form. Therefore the number of tabs/pages (A) will vary from census to census.

Each field should have a label with the corresponding box # (B) on that census and it should flow in order.

"HEADER" labels will correspond to data in the usually in the margins and top of the census involving the locations and addresses.

*The "header" details will carry over to each new person added for this census.

Input the data exactly as seen on the census. For example if the box just has a "1" in it, then just input the "1" and the details in the Research workbook should reflect whatever that "1" meant in that field.

The exception are fields that have drop down boxes (B). Try to use one of the prepopulated values if possible. These should correlate to the actual census input but may be slight variances depending on the census taker's style.

If a label says "NOT USED" then you reached the end of the input fields.
