TROUBLESHOOT - EXTRACT WORKBOOK

1. SOMETHING WENT WRONG ERROR

This error occurs when you click the "PASTE" option and something is off.  To fix try the following solutions:

  1. Make sure you unzipped the files when you initially installed it (See This)
  2. Make sure your files are saved to your actual computer - not a cloud storage
  3. Make sure the gold "SOURCE" button is set to the site you are using, Ancestry or FamilySearch
  4. Make sure you are using a CHROME or EDGE internet browser - Firefox formats that data weirdly when you copy it so that may cause the error
  5. Make sure the Index Pane AND Headings AND navigation arrows are visible when you Select All & Copy All
  6. Make sure you selected the entire web page
  7. For FamilySearch - make sure your cursor was NOT over the navigational arrows when you Selected All & Copied All - That throws the code off

See the Ancestry & FamilySearch help pages for step by step process

2. SOME DATA IS DUPLICATED IN THE TABLE

Sometimes, on FamilySearch in particular, they lists families that cross over census pages on both Image pages indexes.  Therefore those entires will be duplicated.  This is not something I can control on my end.

To Fix This Try the following:

  1. Manually delete the table rows that are duplicates
  2. Use Excel's "Remove Duplicates" feature for tables.
    • Click on any cell in the table
    • Click on the "Design" Ribbon
    • Click on "Remove Duplicates"
    • Select the Column(s) in the table you want to remove
    • Then hit "OK"

*Note that this will remove ALL duplicates for the selected columns - so if (2) or more people actually have the same names - then you should do a manual removal to be safe.

 3. THE DATA DOESN'T MATCH THE RECORD

The data in the index is dependent on Ancestry.Com and FamilySearch's transcriptions.

This file only takes the index information that they provide and moves it to a formatted Excel table.  Therefore nothing can be done on the Excel side to fix their transcriptions and details provided.

The only solution would to manually adjust the data in Excel
